Our Story

A Kitchen That Never Changed Hands

In 1994, a husband and wife from Ethiopia opened a small dining room on West San Carlos Street with nothing but family recipes and exotic spices carried from home.

01

The Beginning

Gojo — meaning 'home' in Amharic — was named for exactly what the owners wanted to build: a place that felt like family, not a restaurant.

02

The Kitchen

Every stew, every wot, every injera is still made from scratch, in-house, using the same Ethiopian spice blends the family has always used. The cook is the owner — nothing is outsourced.

03

Thirty Years Later

Three decades on, Gojo is still a small, dimly lit dining room where regulars are greeted by name, and every platter is meant to be shared.
